The fact that there is need for renewable energy is not in dispute as the price of gas has been steadily going up for a long time. Solar energy is probably one of the most popular and mostly used form of renewable energy around but while it has quite a number of advantages, there is also the flip side to the coin as there are disadvantages of solar energy that one should know. Probably one of the most obvious disadvantages of solar energy is that one cannot use it for a long time. While long-lasting batteries are being developed and improved, the energy consumption in many American homes means that solar energy is still deficient.

The initial costs of solar equipment that is used for harnessing the energy of the sun are also very high. This problem is being addressed as well because with the depleting of the well known fossil energy, the demand for another source of energy has gone up and this has made the prices of solar panels to go up. Another cost that one might have to contend with is paying a professional to do the installation. While some professionals offer services at fair prices, others can be quite expensive. Solar energy installation also requires much space to enable efficiency in providing electricity and this is never good news for people who do not have much space or who live in very expensive areas.

Another of the disadvantages of solar energy is that one has to place the solar panels where there is nothing else obstructing the solar energy path and this can be very tricky especially for people who live in crowded apartments or those who have other objects on their roof tops. Currently, there are just not enough solar technologies that have been developed to deal with all the solar energy needs that are required. There are various technologies that one can use for energy supply in their home but it should be duly noted that these technologies can only supply limited power in the home. While many people are for renewable energy, they see no point in having it while there is little difference in their power bills. There is also the issue of maintenance of the solar energy equipment and this can be quite expensive especially if one hires a professional to perform the maintenance procedure for them. People who prefer to carry out their own maintenance procedure will need time and the tools needed to performance any sort of maintenance. Although the above are some disadvantages of solar energy, it still remains one of the most sought after forms of energy and likely the next best replacement we have at the moment.
